How we handle your information

The short version

Causel is in early access. If you sign up, we collect your work email and (optionally) a few details about your team — only so we can show you the engineering-AI insights you're asking about. We don't sell your data, we don't share it with advertisers, and you can ask us to delete everything we have on you at any time by emailing hello@causel.app.

Who we are

Causel ("we", "us", "our") is the data controller for any personal information you provide on this site. Causel is currently an early-stage project run by its founder; no legal entity has been incorporated yet. Once we incorporate, this policy will be updated to name the entity. Information we collect

Information you give us directly. When you request access from the signup form on the home page we record:

• Your work email address (required).
• The optional details you provide in the follow-up modal: engineering team size, your role, AI tools your team uses, and the open-text question you'd like Causel to help answer. All of these are optional — skipping them is fine.

Information collected automatically. We use Vercel Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not store any information on your device. It records anonymous, aggregated page-view counts using a short-lived hashed identifier derived from your request — there is no persistent user ID, no cross-site tracking, and no third-party advertising. We do not sell visit data to anyone.

Information from your browser. Standard server logs (IP address, browser type, referrer) may be retained for a short period for security and abuse prevention.

How we use your information

• To contact you about Causel — onboarding when early-access opens to your team, occasional product updates, and any follow-up questions about the data you'd like Causel to measure for you. We will not send unsolicited marketing.
• To tailor the first weekly report we deliver to you based on the team-size, role, and AI-tool details you shared.
• To improve the product and this site (aggregate, anonymized usage analysis).
• To detect and prevent fraud, spam, or abuse of the signup form.

Who we share information with

We share your information only with:

• Service providers who process data on our behalf under written contracts that require them to protect it (for example, the email-delivery service that sends the messages we write to you, and the cloud platform that hosts the site). These providers are not allowed to use your information for their own purposes.
• Legal authorities if we are required by law to disclose information (e.g., a valid subpoena). We will push back on overly broad requests where we can.
• An acquirer in the event of a merger or acquisition. We would notify you in advance and your rights under this policy would carry over.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

How long we keep it

We keep early-access signup information until you ask us to delete it, or for up to 24 months of inactivity, whichever comes first. Server logs are retained for 30 days. If you ask us to delete your data, we'll do so within 30 days unless we're legally required to keep it longer (we'd tell you if so).

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under data protection laws including the EU/UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act. These typically include the right to:

• Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct information that's inaccurate.
• Ask us to delete your data.
• Object to or restrict how we process your data.
• Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these, email hello@causel.app from the address you signed up with. We'll respond within 30 days.

Cookies and similar technologies

We do not use tracking cookies. Our analytics provider (Vercel Web Analytics) is cookieless. We do not use cross-site tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies. If we add anything beyond what's described here we'll update this policy and prompt for consent where applicable.

Children

Causel is a B2B product for engineering teams. The site is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

International transfers

Our service providers may process your data outside your country of residence. Where required, we rely on standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards to protect it during transfer.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this page as Causel evolves — for example, when we add new integrations, hire data sub-processors, or change how data is stored. Material changes will be announced by email to anyone who has signed up, with at least 14 days' notice before they take effect.
